Don't know what you've done so far, but it's pretty much a given in genealogy that you start with what you know...so workyour way backward to James via U.S. censuses, family birth, marriage, and death records, church records, perhaps naturalization records.For instance - is he in the 1880 U.S. census?Or the 1900?The 1900 census asks people when they came here.You may be able to narrow your search.Irish civil records for the time of his birth were not kept, so your best bet for finding him would be church records.But you'll have to know a bit more than his probable year of birth.When did he marry?Where?Do you have his marriage record?Does it give his parents' names?
