Thank you Ralph. I registered with the Irish Foundation and opted to be informed when Carlow records are put on about a month ago. Bridget Mary is a bit of a mystery. As I said before, there is no record of her marriage to my Grandfather. She was an Irish Catholic and he was an English protestant. She came to England to go into service, possibly around the Manchester area. I know she was older than my Grandfather, by how much, again, I'm not sure. Her death certificate would suggest that she was born about 1891. John and Bridget went to India in 1922 and she gave her age as 28. This would suggest that she was born about 1894.
Am I right in thinking that many Catholics were given a confirmation name? If so, her name might not have been registered as Bridget Mary.
