My great grandfather John McQuaide married Harriet Maria Wilson in about 1854. Her father was Michael Wilson, a merchant in Carlow. John and Harriet lived in Carlow Town and had 7 children (may have been more but 7 survived). Harriet died in 1879 of TB. Her sister Elizabeth Wilson moved in with John, I guess to help look after the children (my grandfather was only 4 when his mother died), and she was still there in 1901 according to the census. John McQuaide had a Stationers shop in Dublin Street, Carlow and was also Registrar of Marriages and Stamp Dealer. He was a town councillor for a while too. When I visited a few years ago I found a Wilson grave in the churchyard of St Mary's Church in Carlow.

I don't know if these are the same family as yours, but it is quite possible.
