I am searching for Richard Bomond Harney, son of Benjamin Harney & Margaret Adair, and Grace Annie Harney, daughter of William & Elizabeth Harney, who md. c1843 (in Carlow?) Grace was in the U.S. by the 1830s, Richard came in the 1840s. They had a child in New York City in 1844. A marriage license bond (Ossory, Ferns & Leighlin) was found by a researcher in Ireland for a couple by this name dated 1843. Would this be a marriage by proxy or would the bride have traveled back to Ireland to marry? Any idea where in Carlow to search for these families? They always lived in New York City, had a "fancy store", so assume they were from a city in Ireland. I don't know if the parents came to the U.S. or remained in Ireland. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
