James, Hugh & Patrick LENNON of Creggan Parish, Co. Armagh to CANADA
I am researching the following family, three brothers who emigrated to Canada.
-The eldest, James LENNON, was born between 1787 & 1789 in Creggan Parish. This has been confirmed with information taken from his attestation papers. In Enniskillen, he joined the 100th Regiment of Foot in 1805 & a year later was sent to Upper Canada. He later was granted land in Goulbourn Township of County Carleton, Ontario, where he married Catherine PENDER (1806-1896) & raised a total of 9 known children. James died in 1855.
-Hugh LENNON was born about 1790 in Ireland & emigrated about 1824 to Upper Canada. He & his wife Catherine O'NEIL raised a total of 6 known children. He too was granted land in Goulbourn Township of County Carleton, Ontario.
-Patrick LENNON was born in 1798 in Ireland. He emigrated in 1818 to Upper Canada and was granted land in Lanark Township of County Lanark, Ontario. He married in Canada and he and his wife Elizabeth (nee MOULTON) raised a total of 11 known children. Patrick died in 1859.
I can say with certainty where James was born, that is in Creggan Parish. The question is where as in what village, or town? Creggan Parish was considered one prior to the year 1795 at which time it was divided into Upper Creggan and Lower Creggan. Which one did James and his younger brothers belong to?
I would welcome any assistance in how to continue with my research as I try to learn more information about this family. Do church records exist today that date back to 1787??
I should point out the LENNONs were Roman Catholic.
Thanks for any and all assistance.
