Gavagans who left Ireland about 1836

My great-grandfather Edward Gavagan,imigrated to the USA with his wife Mary and daughter Betsy between 1830 and 1840; my best guess is 1836. In my search I have found that most of the Gavagans came from either Roscommon, Sligo, Longford, WestMeath and as far north as Donegal. Beyond this I haven't a clue.
