Thanks Eamon, for the reply.The Robert Beattie I am looking for learned the carpet and weaving trade as a child because when he left Ireland around 1828 he headed for the Mohawk Valley in New York state to learn more.He also told of a family history of making carpets on the back of a wagon in the Armagh province.
The is a rumor that he had a son, John, that he left in Ireland.I am wonder also about your name because my father is named for his grandfather (the son of John) Edmund Beattie, which I have found is not a popular first name for Beattie's.I had visited Scotland this past Sept. in search of more information on my line.Please let me know if any of this strikes a cord.
