Andrew Weir & Mary Lemon Family
I am seeking any information on the family of Andrew Weir and Mary Lemon.
Andrew Weir b- ca 1759 Ireland, married Mary Lemon/Lemond/Lemen b- ca 1762.Married probably in Ireland bef. 1784.Their children were:
Margaret b- 1784 Ireland
Robert b- 02 Jan 1785 Ireland
Mary b- 02 Apr 1787 Ireland
Sarah b- 1789
Hugh b- 15 Feb 1795 North Carolina
James b- 22 Jan 1797 Blount Co., TN
Andrew b- 16 Mar 1799 Blount Co., TN
Jane b- 02 Jul 1804 Blount Co., TN
John b- 09 Jan 1806 Blount Co., TN
It is thought they landed in either South Carolina or North Carolina in the early 1790's.I descend from their son James. There are many Weir lines living in Blount Co., TN in 1800, but most of them came in through Rockingham Co., Virginia.I do not know who Andrew or Mary's parents are or any of their siblings. This family went from Blount Co., TN, through Shelby Co., Kentucky and settled in Knox and Sullivan Cos. in Indiana by 1817.One source tells me of "Three Weir boys and their families came over to America from Ireland. They came on the account of their religion. At this time the Catholics were trying to rule. One of the boys was a Methodist preacher. While on the ocean a storm arose and all the brothers were separated. Two of the brothers and their families were lost and never found. The other brother [Andrew?] settled in
Tennessee. To this union was born nine children."This not proven and could be family lore.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks.
