Services were held this morning, Thursday, August 13, for George H. Irelan, well known resident of the Yuma community for the past 41 years, who peacefully departed this life in his sleep on Sunday, August 09.
Services were held at the Yuma Methodist Church with Rev. Jon R. Nieves officiating. Interment was made in the Yuma Cemetery.
George Henry Irelan, son of George W. and Elizabeth Irelan, was born on June 21, 1893 at Drakesville, Iowa, and peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 09, 1959, at his home in Yuma.
On April 24, 1917, he was united in marriage to Pearl Ellen Tharp and the couple moved to Yuma the following March. They have continued to live in and around Yuma for the past 41 years.
Upon first moving to Yuma, Mr. Irelan was employed by the Mike Gisi drayage firm and drove a school bus. In 1923, he entered the grain business, a profession which he pursued until his retirement last April.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Barth of Sterling and Sharon Lynn Dickson of Fort Collins: on son, Steven Kent Hathaway, stationed at Keesler Air Force, Mississippi: and one stepson, Max Tharp of Vernon: four grandchildren' brothers, John and William of Moravia, Iowa, and Clarence of Valpariso, Indiana, and sisters, Mettie Roland, Clara Irelan, and Minnie Stocker all of Moravia, Iowa, and Mary Bradshaw of Ottumwa, Iowa. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen, his father and mother, a brother, Oliver, and sister, Sylvia.
