Dear Sir,

I hope you are well. I am a professor of surgery in Pakistan (Karachi). I am trying to trace my roots and wonder if you can help me.

My family is Taqvi/ Rizvi Syed. My ancestor Syed Makhdum Shah Asad uddin Rizvi (Taqvi)(Aftab e Hind) arrived from Mashhud Iran. His Mazar (mausoleum) is at Zafarabad near Jaunpur. It is said that an urs (annual death anniversary) is still held every year.

Can you kindly help me in finding out,

Who was Syed Makhdum Shah Asad uddin?
When and how did he come to Zafarabad?
Who were his ancestors and children and where do they belong?

I wish to obtain as much information about my ancestors and their history as possible. Can you kindly help me? Can you guide me to someone who can help me. I will be really grateful.

Kind regards

Professor Syed Razi Muhammad FRCS, FRCSED.
