John Pera was clearly an Assyrian from the Urmia area of northwest Iran. At the time prior to WWI and the genocide of Assyrians, many came to the midwest, as did my grandfather Abraham Yohannan. They settled in Gary, Indiana or Flint Michigan, as well as Chicago where a large community still exists.

Do you know John Pera's Christian denomination? Most likely Presbyterian. What was his occupation? Was he educated?

There are limited graduation records from Qala the boys' school outside Urmia and some church records from the Gary community church. I am not sure how to locate the latter.

Does your family have pre-WWI pictures?
