Dear Regina Jalaly-Porter,

The Last name Jalaly (or Jalali) comes from the name Jalal (جلال) meaning greatness. Back in the old ages, your last name was based on your region, city, or ancestor. Therefore, the surname, Jalali comes from an ancestor known as Jalal. Now, there are many people named Jalali or Mohammadi or Tehrani. So this would get very confusing to see which one is which. If you can give me all the information you know of your husbands family history (names), I can help you to trace your family back. Your family may be related to the Jalali family of the Qajar Royal Family of Persia. If so, your husband and your children are Iranians, Turks, Mongols, Chinese, Byzantines, Romans, etc. (This would mean your husband and your children are descendants of the Caesars of Rome).
If you like to talk to me privately, send me an e-mail to alimerzairan@yahoo.com with subject, Jalali.
