‘Hadhrat ‘Aun Qutub Shah Qaadiri Baghdaadi (RA) is the Mureed (Disciple) and Khalifa of Ghawth al-A’azam Sayyidina ‘Abdul Qaadir Jilaani (RA). He is the 12th descendant of ‘Hadhrat Mu’hammad al-‘Hanafa (RA) bin Ameer ul-Momineen Sayyidina ‘Ali (RA) [According to some, he is the 12th descendant of ‘Hadhrat ‘Abbaas (RA) bin Ameer ul-Momineen Sayyidina ‘Ali (RA)]. He was born in 419 AH and he passed away in 557 AH. [Note: Gawth al-A’azam (RA) was born in 470 AH and he passed away in 561 AH]

Ghawth al-A’azam (RA) granted him Khilafa in Silsila-E ‘Aaliya Qaadiriya and ordered him to preach Islam in the Northern India. ‘Hadhrat Qutub Shah (RA) was also a soldier. He conquered the valley of “Kohistan Namak” (Salt Range) and settled there. His descendents started their Tableegh-Mission (Preaching) from this area. He setup different Madrassas (Islamic Schools) in the area that specialized especially in ‘Hifz (Memorizing) al-Quran. That is why this region is also known as A’awan Qari. The capital was Talha Gang and was known as A’awan Mahal till the mughal emporer Akbar.

The first wife of ‘Hadhrat Qutub Shah (RA) is the sister of Ghawth al-A’azam’s (RA) wife. Three sons from this Waliya Kamila, ‘Hadhrat ‘Abdullah [Also known as Golarha] (RA), ‘Hadhrat Mu’hammad [Also known as Kundalaan] (RA) and Mu’azziz ud-Deen also accompanied their father ‘Hadhrat Qutub Shah (RA) during the Jihaad.

Once a Hindu Raja accepted Islam at the hands of ‘Hadhrat Qutub Shah (RA) and requested him to marry his daughter. She gave birth to six sons: Ma’hmood, Muzammil ‘Ali, Ameer, Jahan Shah, Bakhtiyaar and Zamaan ‘Ali. The descendents of these nine sons constitute the Qabeela A’awan Qutub Shahi (A’awan Tribe).

‘Hadhrat Qutub Shah (RA) spent 40 years preaching in this area and then left for Baghdad and settled there, leaving the preaching mission to his sons. He passed away in Baghdad. He had great relationships with the family of his Shaykh. Later, the daughter of ‘Hadhrat ‘Abdul Razzaq (RA) bin Ghawth al-A’azam (RA) was married to Mu’hammad [Also known as Kahut] (RA) bin Mu’hammad Kundalaan (RA) bin Mu’hammad ‘Aun Qutb Shah Qaadiri Baghdadi (RA). This is the origin of the famous offshoot Kahut Quraysh. He got settled about 1 mile towards east from Talha Gang on a hill which is still known as Nikah Kahut.

The descendents of ‘Hadhrat Qutub Shah (RA), besides handling their Khanqahs, also stayed with the different Islamic Rulers including Ghaznavis, Ghulamaans and Tughlaqs. The famous poet Chandar Barda of the Raja Parthivi Raaj says, “Shahab ud-Deen attacked the Raja and along with him came Mu’azziz ud-Deen, Ma’hmood, Golarha, Kundalaan and Bakhtiar etc. and the Muslims won at Talwandi in Thaanesar. Then the Muslims took over Lahore too. Half of them returned the same year and the rest settled in this fort. Many Muslim Sufis also came to our land and the people shifted from their ancient religion”.

Munshi Hanuman Parshad also agrees to this and says in Tareekh Makhzan-E Hind, “A person whose name was Mir Qutub came from Baghdad. He married in India and his descendents settled here”.

We have a lot of Buzurgaan-E Deen (Muslim Sufis and Saints) among his descendents. Some of the most famous names are ‘Hadhrat Sultan Bahu (RA), ‘Hadhrat Shams ud-Deen Sialvi (RA), ‘Hadhrat ‘Haafiz Ra’hmat ULLAH (RA), ‘Hadhrat Sultan Ibrahim Sarhi Wala (RA), ‘Hadhrat ‘Haafiz Mu’hammad ‘Azeem Owaysi (RA), ‘Hadhrat ‘Haafiz Mu’hammad Jamal Multani (RA), ‘Hadhrat Mu’hammad ‘Abdul Ra’hman Hari Puri (RA), ‘Hadhrat ‘Haafiz Fata’h Nur (RA), ‘Hadhrat ‘Haji A’hmad Hilani (RA) and ‘Hadhrat Maulana ALLAH Yar Khan (RA).
