Assalamu Alaikum

I am an Awan and have been told very similar, in addition to that our family call themselves Qutb Shah Awan and are from Gujrat in Pakistan. They also call themselves Malik Awans. I have run searches online regarding all this due to a recent interest in trying to find out about my lineage and although the bulk of what I have come across is in accordance with what I have already heard and read, a couple of genealogists are of the view that these are just claims and that we are in fact from Indians, just like the Gujjars and Jatts. This is all rather confusing.

Would be great if people could keep adding to this thread as I would love to know more.

JazakAllah Khair

Wassalamu Alaikum
