There is actually a great deal of literature on the history of "Eurasians" or "half-breeds" in Victorian India and Britain and how they were marginelized etc. Pictures are not very helpful other than "dating" you ancestors by dress etc. Best bet is the India Office Records in London and Public Records Office in Kew. Also the parrish records might be useful. I am sure they belonged to a church when they moved back. That can give you a name for your f-male ancestor. From there you might want to write to the church you suspect they were married in in India and see if during an interval of years they run across the names.

Needles in a haystack...but its the best I can do.

Good Hunting,

Amir
