Thanks! The problem with trying to find out if there is a Persian connection to the English Parvins is that inherited family surnames (vs "son of" or occupation, for example) were in use in England centuries before they were in Persia. So why did our Parvin ancestors choose the name Parvin when surnames first came into use? It was a lovely Persian name for girls, and there was some trade contact with Persia by the 16th century when the shah established trade relations with England. But whether a Persian immigrant to England chose that for a surname,or an Englishman who was familiar with Persia, we may never know! The fact that spelling was not standardized until about the time Parvins appeared in English records adds further uncertainty.
Because England began using inherited family surnames much earlier than many European and middle East countries (but not as early as China), we're able to trace our ancestry farther back (at least to 1604)than many people can.
