What a wonderful find!! I have a direct line with one of the privates listed and I am also kin to the Ipocks.
The private Albert (Spruell) Spruill is my great great grandfather. Albert was born in May, 1842 and died in Oct. 1917 in Craven County. He died from cancer of the face and neck. He was born in Tyrrell County, NC the son of Tully and Mahalia Freeman Spruill. The Spruill roots go back to Dr. Godfrey Spruill born abt. 1650.
Just yesterday I got a copy of a 1917 New Bern, NC newspaper aritcle which states: "Well Known Citizen of Vanceboro Dead
Mr. Albert Spruill Answered The Call Yesterday Afternoon"
Mr. Albert Spruill, one of Vanceboro's well known residents, died at that place yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock following an illness of some time....
On February 14, 1867, Albert married Mary Ann Ipock (b. April 23, 1840 and died March 04, 1917) in Craven County, NC. She was the daughter of Arthur Ipock b. abt. 1799 and Sina Whitford b. 1821.
Albert and Mary Ann are buried in the Spruill Cemetery, in the Ernul area of Craven County.
