Insko Family Genealogy Forum
I asked an expert in onomastics about the Inscho/Insko/Inscoe surname and he stated that Inscoe was from very old English found in the hickory flats and backwater swamps of Virginia and the Carolinas. These groups were cut off from any interactivity with neighboring settlements for generations and they retained their old ways and their own original English speech patterns.
He also states that the name Inscoe originates in the West English countryside along Wales. It is found up the Wye River (in Wales) as far north as Hay-on-Wye. It is also found deeper into Wales in the coal mining district of the Brecon Mountains. It is not indigenous to Wales, however, being originally West English. If you wanted to go back even further, he believes the name came from Saxony in North Germany and near Denmark.
Do any of you researchers have any historical information on these groups of people that would tie in with his information?
