Ah, so you're more closely related to Jennifer KIRKBY, then, I know she's from John's line as well. She and I thought it was interesting that John married Elizabeth CARTER and William married Maria CARTER, we wondered whether there might be a double connection there ... as always, there's never enough time to track everything down that looks interesting.

Actually, I didn't know that Wm and Maria's son John died at 18 mths, I had guessed that two of their sons (William jr and John) had died prior to 1844 since they didn't accompany their parents on the voyage to Australia (and death certificates for William (sr) and Maria in 1877 and 1880 respectively list all their children as living except for two sons deceased), thank you for passing that on to me. I wonder what happened to William jr?

Would it be possible to get a copy or transcription of the 1841 census for the family? I haven't seen it, and I'd be very grateful.

I wish I could add more to your knowledge of the family in England, but you're probably well ahead of me on that one! I can provide details of William and Maria's descendants in Australia if you're interested, please let me know.

Regards,
Gina.
