Depending on how ornate the ring is, you might be able to track it by its craftmanship. The more ornate the ring, the fewer metalsmiths that could have made it. Also, track down the area in which your grandmother lived when she was given the ring. This might give you an area to search for those initials, and or a jewelry store. Hopefully, the store where the ring was purchased is a longstanding one...
