If your ancestor died 1887, Feb. 12 or
1887, 02, 12 then substract the 4 months and 3 days from the above.

1887 02 12
-04 -09
So, you borrow 1 year or twelve months from 1887 making it 1886 you then 12 to the 02 which becomes 14.
This would make 1886, 10, 3 or October 3, 1886.
