I believe that I have seen where some folks claim success using a COLOR copier. The main thing is not to use any method which might damage or destroy the document (soaking it in a liquid, applying heat, etc.). If you are REALLY determined to read the document(s) then your best bet might be to contact a certified documents examiner. They should have all of the latest high tech equipment (UV/IR)which will bring out the writing. However, this might end up being a very pricey proposition so be prepared. Below is a link to a CDE, I have no connection to this lady nor have I ever used her services so I am just passing it on as a possibility you might want to pursue. If I were in your shoes, I would email her, explain what you have, and try to get an idea of costs and time involved. That assumes that she is not too busy with more lucrative projects. In that case, she might be willing to refer you to someone else. If you decide to contact her, I would appreciate knowing what she says.....Good Luck
PS - you might post this to the General Genealogy message board, maybe someone there has another SAFE method you can try.....
