Forget thee no while memory lasts/thine image
Seeking source for this beautiful tombstone sentiment. Who penned these words? Does it come from
song, poetry, or other source?
It has appeared on 1871 tombstone for Samuel Prestage Woodsworth Cemetery, Macomb, NY;
1881 Stilwell Family Eden Cemetery, Elgin County Ontario; 1886 for my family in the Soo; and
1888 for McKay family on Manitoulin Island, Ontario.
In full it reads: Forget thee no while memory lasts/Thine image shall not fade/Till we shall meet where
sorrow ne'er/ Shall cast a withering shade.
The only spelling differences I see for this sentiment among the stones I mention above is "Forget thee
noT rather than "no" on two of them; and one that spells "ne'er" as "n'er".
Does anyone out these have a dusty old volume that contains the original?
