Shiloh Monument Inscription

Hi Everyone,
I'm searching for some insight into the background of a monument located at Shiloh Cemetery or possibly at the Battlefield Park. The plaque accompanying the monument says, roughly, somethng like this;
"Confederate Monument--the South handing the Laural Wreath of Victory back to Death and Night"
Can anyone provide some information about that inscription? What does it mean, exactly?
I have an excellent picture of the monument at this URL:

Thank you,
John Bott
