I am looking for information on Charles Innes who married Jane Fraser in Boat of Garten on the 31st December 1846. Both Charles and Jane were born Abt 1820, Charles in Rothiemurchus and Jane in Abernethy.
I can find no information on Charles or Jane’s births, parents or siblings. Charles was living in “Canada” in or near the Rothiemurchus Estate in 1841 with Elspeth Innes (also born abt 1820). She could be his sister or first wife. They were living with an older lady who was head of the household. In 1851, I can find no trace of Elspeth, presumably married by then. Charles is still living in Canada – now referred to as Benieside (Benniside) and has the same neighbours as in the 1841 census, but now is married to Jane Fraser.
They had three children between 1848 and 1853 – William, Charles and Bell. Bell presumably had died by the time they emigrated to Australia as she was not listed on the passenger list. I can find no records of their birth or the death of Bell. I find it hard to believe they wouldn’t have registered or christened the children as they were quite religious and Charles was actually a preacher in Australia.
I would love any information anyone has on the Innes family in Duthil with Rothiemurchus or Inverness-shire.
