Dear Lesley Davies, I was astonished to stumble on your message in the Geneology.com. However, John H. I. was my grandfather, and the info about him being a marine engineer is correct, as is also the birth of Jesse at Alliance Avenue, Hull (I lived there for a short time after being orphaned). So also did Jesse marry a Macdougal (lived in Leeds).
Grandfather took a job in USA and Alice Purvis from Fife voyaged over from Liverpool quite independantly to marry him. He later fell ill, and they all returned to Hull. What will interest you is the fact that I have a Family Bible which records their marriage and the arrival of their children
I am 86 years old now, and not too well, so I will wait to hear from you before raking out the Bible (it weighs a ton!). I do hope that we may be able to exchange some interesting Emails.
Although born in Hull, I have all my life felt intensely Scottish, so I am very keen to hear nore........Alan M. I. Nicholson.
