The following information is unverified. but may provide a useful starting place:
1. Alexander Innes , born before 1632 in Scotland, died 9 October 1679 in Block Island, Washington County, Rhode Island; married before 1652 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Catherine _______, born 1635 either in Ireland or Rhode Island.
Children of Alexander and Catherine are:
1. Dau Innes born 1652 in Massachusetts; married John Dodge after 1672
2. William Innes/ Ennes , born 1653 Massachusetts, died 1712 in Ulster County, New York; married Cornelia Viervant about April 1693 – in Kingston, Ulster County, New York She was the daughter of Cornelis Arenta Viervant and Jeanne leSueur.
3. Elizabeth Innes born around 1656, died before 1711/12: ; married(1) William Harris Sr. 24 July 1672, New ‘_ Shorham‘_ , Block Island, Washington – County, Rhode Island, married 2- around 1680, Roger ALGER:
4. Thomas Innes , born around 1660 in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, died after 1700; married around 1694, Jeanne ‘_ LaSueur‘_
5. Catherine Innes, born 1669-1679 in Block Island, Rhode Island; married 1692 in Nantucket, Massachusetts, Dennis Manning: b. 1659 Nantucket, MA m: 1678 Nantucket, MA
[Alexander Innes ] Was possibly brought to this country (the Colonies - New England) as prisoner of war/indentured slave on the ship the "John and Sarah", Nov. 11, 1651 and the Capt. was Jonathan GREENE. The underwriters of this voyage were John BEEX, Robert RICH and Will. GREEN. It was recorded May 13, 1652
Some of the Scotchmen found their way to Block Island, after being freed, and became a respectable section of the early settlers of that island. some had worked at Lynn and others at the branch works in Braintree. They must have belonged to the Dunbar Contingent. Their names are Alexander Innes, Robert Guthrie, Thormut (or Dermot) Rose, William Tosh, James Danielson, and possibly a few others.
. They all probably were taken at the battle of Dunbar Sept. 3, 1650 (or the Battle of Worchester 1651), when Oliver Cromwell was victorious and four thousand were slain and ten thousand made prisoners.
