Hi Mandy,
I would suggest that you contact the Lord Garter at the College of Arms.
There are several ways that you can contact the Lord Garter:
mail:
Attn. Lord Garter
The College of Arms
Queen Victoria Street
London
EC4V 4BT
England
Telephone: 020 7248 1188
Website: http://www.college-of-arms.gov.ukhttp://www.college-of-arms.gov.uk
The Lord Garter is one of the heralds to HM Queen Elizabeth II.He offers genealogical research at a premium.
The best way to save money before hiring a professional genealogist is to gather ALL your research along with documentation showing your lineage as far back as possible.
Another website of interest is the official website for Burke's Peerage & Gentry, which can be found at the following URL:
http://www.burkes-peerage.nethttp://www.burkes-peerage.net
Still another website located in England is Achievements, Ltd. You can view their website at:
http://www.achievements.co.ukhttp://www.achievements.co.uk
How good Achievements, Ltd. is, I cannot say as I have not used their services.
Burke's Peerage may offer genealogical services, but I don't readily recall if they do or do not.I do know they publish, "Burke's Peerage & Gentry."
With regards, to the College of Arms; unless, you have a rather large bank account, I would only suggest that you seek them for rudimentary advice and nothing further.
Good luck with your search!
Sincerely,
Jason Simmons
