Very glad to hear from someone in Bermuda who has done research on the Inghams. But what is the proof that the John Ingham in Farnham, Essex, is the same one who founded the Bermuda family?Col. Henry L. Ingham compiled information on the Ingham family in Bermuda and their descendants in the U.S. in the 1930s; I do not know his exact relationship. In fact, INGHAM is not an "ancient Saxon name" but a place name in three (altogether four) counties of England, and any number of families could and did adopt it as their surname.By far not all of them were landed gentry.Sir Oliver de Ingham (co. Norfolk) left no male heirs and thus is not the lineal ancestor of any living Inghams. I discuss the surname and Inghams in England and America in the Introduction to my forthcoming book on the descendants of Joseph of Saybrook.Meanwhile, see comments in my 1993 article in THE AMERICAN GENEALOGIST.
