Robert Green Ingersoll is a direct descendant of the 4th child of Richard and Anne Ingersoll. The 4th c is a John Ingersoll baptized on 11 March 1620. This old man is a direct descendant of the 5th child, Joanna. Robert Green Ingersoll or Col. Ingersoll is my 6C4R. an old book that I bought from an antique store in Sutter Creek CA 7 Sep 1990, is "Wit, Wisdom and Eloquence of Col. R.G. Ingersoll, 1897 edited by J.B.McClure, A.M., Chicago: Rhodes & McClure Publishing Co. 1897. It is in very good condition but not for sale. Many of his comments are especially apt for today, especially those on the Republican vs. Democratic party. As an aside, there were 19 ships and each was named "Mayflower." Ingersoll and Pettingale familes were members of the established Church, that is the reason that they were not listed as 'freemen.' The old magazine "Americana," had a series of articles about them, including descriptions of life on board the ships, the first landing, etc. If you are interested, I will be happy to supply the complete reference . You have to be very careful in accepting statements in the book "A Pettingell Genealogy compiled by John Mason Pettingell in 1906. He does not give any details on anyone who is a or was a Quaker, Native American, Roman Catholic or the founders of the Mormon Church. I imagine that the same may be true of other old family histories. As an aside, we are over 80 and graduates of LSU and lifetime members of the VFW. Notify Administrator about this message?
