I think your John Ingersoll is son of John Ingersoll & Millicent Steelman. John Sr & Benjamin are listed in 1820 Pike Co Ohio census in Sunfish Twp as John Ingerman and Benjamin Ingerson. But deed records show both as Ingersul or Ingersol(l) so I'm convinced they are both Ingersoll. Most likely brothers, and probably sons of Benjamin Ingersul of Egg Harbor NJ. Anyway in 1830 census both John and benjamin are gone but Millicent Ingersoll & her son Steelman are listed. Benjamin is in Wabash co IN and John is deceased. Court papers filed in 1835 by John Jr lists his mother Millicent, as relict of John and all children names and whether of age or minor. I've got some more data in support if you are interested.
let me know if this is helpful.
If you have luck with going on back please keep me posted as I have set this aside for awhile.
