Ora, George and William had two other brothers - Zaccheus Bass Ingalls, Jeremiah's second son, with Sally Pierce Ingalls (she raised him, and J. took George with him when they separated); and Joshua Bigelow Ingalls, who was Jeremiah's third son, with Lana Carpenter, and William's older brother.
I am descended from Joshua Bigelow Ingalls. As to documentation, I'm afraid we have no birth certificate. What we have is a lot of circumstantial evidence that seems to point to no other conclusion (including JB's naming of Jeremiah and Lana - also misread as Laura - as his parents in census data).
We assume JB left the Shakers at the same time as Lana and William. She then remarried, to Alonzo Hancock, and died about a year later (Alonzo married a number of times, and his wives all died but the last one. Makes you wonder...).
