I'd be interested to know how common this surname is in South Africa?

I interviewed my paternal great uncle before he died and he kept bringing up the surname 'Ontong' but never explained the relationship.Whilst my father looks caucasian,his grandfather looks very asian.Could this name be connected to the thousands of indonesian/batavian slaves taken to the cape? alot of them were political exiles.
