Results of my recent reseach to reconstruct the origins of my family revealed that Dirk Wijnhard van Hutten and Hendrika Christina Fransz were the parents of my great grandfather! Johanna Emelia van Hutten appeared to be our "Oma van Waning" ("Oma"=grandmother). It was through the name van Waning that I was able to prove that Johanna Emelia must have been "Oma van Waning". My aunt still remembers Johanna Emelia!
From research in archives in The Hague I discovered that Dirk Wijnhard was born on 26th November 1818 and died on 30th November 1896 in Soerbaja. He was buried at "Peneleh" Soerabaja III, "Vakken G,H,I,J and K".Dirk Wijnhard married to Hendrika Fransz on 4th December 1852 in Soemenap. Hendrika Christina was born in 1835 (no further details yet) and died on 1st March 1911 in Soerabaja. She was buried at "Peneleh" Soerabaja III, "Vakken G,H,I,J and K". Up till now I found out that they had three children:
1. (Probably) Catharina Christina, born 14th October 1853 in Grisee, she died on 12th April 1916 in Soerabaja and was buried at at "Peneleh" Soerabaja III, "Vakken G,H,I,J and K".
2. Christiaan Willem Gerrit, born 26th August, 1858 in Grisee, he died on 25th May, 1934 probably in Soerabaja; Christiaan Willem Gerrit was my great-grandfather.
3. Johanna Emelia, born 23rd November, 1860 in Sidajoe and died on 5th May, 1952 in The Hague.
On family Fransz I discovered that there are details in the archives, but I did not further investigate this family. It appeared that Fransz was a shipowners family most probably indeed from Colombo.
I am very interested to kow more about the ancestors of Dirk Wijnhard, however, sofar I was unable to find any links. I suspect that the parents or greatparents of Dirk Wijnhard sailed from the Netherlands with vessels from the VOC (="Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie") to the East. Proof of this assumption is, however, still lacking. Further research in Dutch archives is necessary, but a busy job during the week makes fast progress impossible. All details are in Dutch language. It is my intention to go back further in time, but it is harder to locate any further information, due to war period and archives which are still in Indonesia and probably not indexed and in bad shape, if accessible at all. However, research in the Netherlands is not yet ready, and who knows wat is still hidden here!
Miel van Hutten.
