My name is Alex Farma Ontong and I come from Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. I have two sons, the elder is Krispin Alberto Ontong (29) and the younger is Emmanuel Cedric Ontong (23). I read with interest your
dad's account that the Ontongs you are related to originally come from China/Philippines. Now I was told by my father (who was an orphan who was adopted by a family surnamed Macana in the island of Bohol to the South of the Philippine Islands) that his father told him that our surname was originally Ong Tong and that his great-grandpa was a full-blooded Chinese (as told to him by his father).
I have no way of verifying the story because my dad passed away in 1976. But in my search I found out that a whole slew of Ontongs still live today in Bohol. I have yet to meet with anyone of them and except for that one incident in 1992 where I came across the name Yolanda Ontong in the borrowers list of CD rental shop in Manila, I believe my own family are the only Ontongs who live in the island of Luzon in the Philippines. But I do know of a Justin Ontong who is apparently a football star of sorts in South Africa. Now I have heard of ms. Cheryl Ontong also of the same country.
Now even if I am unable to trace my roots, I am quite happy to be making acquaintances with other Ontongs across the planet. Thanks and do write back.
