Dear readers in answer to a question posted by a member "what does Meston mean" It's a very long story but in brief, I have read most of the postings on this site many only wish to find relatives, however you may be surprised to hear what the reality of our name means and where the Meston name originates from, this is of course my theory based on the origin of Europe, "Meso" as in the name Mesopotamia means Land in Arabic, the whole word Mesopotiamia means "Land between rivers", "ton" means mass or size, all of course Arabic words, it is possible that the name derives from an ancient Mesopotamian Arabic christian tribe displaced during the 3rd crusade after the defeat of "Richard the Lionheart" when Saladin the Muslm warlord re-took Jerusalem. the second part of the name would indicate that the tribe was of substantial size meaning it could have been displaced to all corners of the earth,(ancient assylum seekers)and that the tribes moved to the south towards India, to the north East Kurdistan and Turkey and North and West to Europe, the name has ancient connections across the world, as we know the name exists in many countries around the globe. There are some incontravertable facts connected to the name it has a substantial Military and Medical history, It was connected politically to the Raj in India. I met Gordon in 1968 at my mothers house in Leeds in Yorkshire England he visited whilst he was researching the book. I have never believed the French connection to the name in Gordons book to be relevent, I do not consider there is any connection with the history of the Meston dynasty.
