Hi Marjorie,

I don't have any info on William but my Great Great Grandmothers maiden name was Matilda Payne, and her father was George Payne. He was In the Army stationed in India.
Matilda married Thomas Connolly in 1860c in India and left Bombay for Australia in 1872.
I don't know if there is a connection or not.
