what i know about Inces
wow! suprised how many ince's there are.i thought ince was a rare name.
my great aunt Therese did some research on our family tree in the '40's.our family is from the original English Ince's.they are brittish royalty, but during the riegn of king Henry the 8th, they chose to remain staunch catholics, and so were not too popular with other Brittish royalty.
they are doing historic research in the original Ince England.apparently, the ince's and those living in thier village, dug a small area in their cellers called "priest holes" where they would hide catholic preists to save them from persecution.
because they remained staunch catholics, many of the Ince clan left England and immigrated to various countries to escape persecution.
there are three towns called Ince in England.the original i'm pretty sure is near Liverpool.Liverpool is in close proximity to Ireland.maybe that is why some of you are Irish.your ancestors may originally be from England.
we are not all related, however.during the Industrial Revolution, when new towns were rapidly established, they often named them after towns that already existed.many people aquired their last names from the town where they lived.so, even if we are all of English ancestry, we are not all related.
ince means "thin" in Turkish.the word for very thin is ince ince.so, i think the Turkish Inces are not related to the English Inces.it's just coincidental that the word for "thin" in turkish is the same as our last name. the English meaning of our name is "dweller in the big house".
as for thin, the physical charactaristics in the Ince's in my family are medium tall - tall, small boned, and thin (at least when young).they have long legs, narrow shoulders and large, round forehead tapering to a narrow jaw.big, bright blue eyes, very pale skin and red or blonde hair.and tend to be above average intellegence. i have small hands and feet, but not sure if that is an Ince trait.
what i do know about my familie's history, is that my great, great grandfather was named Thomas Ince.he married an Irish girl named Maureen, and they immigrated to the United States.they lived in Virginia during the civil war.they had two sons, Charles Alexander ( my great-grandfather ) and i'm pretty sure his brother's name was Thomas.
the parents were quite well off.they were killed during the war, and the boys were left in the care of a preacher.the preacher kept thier money and then put the boy's out on their own.
my grandfather's name was Edward Vincent Ince.he was married to Violet (Pearl) England.she was Dutch with some English blood.her family originally from Canada since the 1600's. she grew up on a farm in Michigan.they lived in Indiana.
my grandfather was a mechanical engineer, but during the Great Depression, mech. engineers were a dime a dozen, and so he purchased a coal yard, "Ince coal co.".back then, most homes were heated with coal.
my dad's name is William Herschel Ince, he had two sisters, Mary-Catherine and Alice, and three brothers, Joseph "Skippy", James, and Richard who died at age 2.
i grew up in Pennsylvania.my mother was from the Philadelphia area.i have a sister, Kathryn-Anne, and two brothers, William H. Jr., and Edward V. the II.thier is a family tradition in naming the girls with a hyphenated first name.
my aunt Mary had 5 children, Walter, Joseph, Therese (Tyna), Michael and Steven. their last name is Cochran. they lived in Virginia , just outside of Washington D.C.my aunt Alice had two chilren, Edward and Pamela.thier last name is Lehman and they live in Indiana.my uncle Jim had two son's, Jeffrey and Jaime. they lived in Westport CT for many yrs, and then Santa Barbara and the parents are now back in Indiana.Uncle Joe never had children.he died from diabetes.
i just chanced upon this site. pretty cool to see how many of us there are!
