Could Harvey be a son (nephew, etc.) of Benjamin JONES and Winifred SHEHORN, natives of Greensville County, Virginia, who farmed in Greene County, Ohio and then on to Whitley County, Indiana along with the JEFFRIES/JEFFRYES and POMPEY families?
Anybody have anything to prove or disprove this? It seems like I have been stuck on this brick wall forever.
Herbert Leander "Harvey" JONES and Martha ROSSER are my 3rd Great-Grandparents. I have also seen his name as Harbert/Harvard. They were married November 23, 1841 in Greene County, Ohio. Their marriage record says “Their ages proven by the oath of Winfield STUDEVANT/STURDIVANT”. Harvey and Martha were both born 1820 ± 5 years in Virginia, possibly Greensville County.
Harvey and Martha had 11 children. The ones that I know of are:
Daniel; b. ABT 1834 in Virginia
John; b. ABT 1837 in Virginia
William Braderick; b. 1838 in (West) Virginia; married Mary Jane GUY
Benjamin C. or F.; b. 1844 in Greene County, Ohio; married Julia ALDRIDGE
Alexander; b. 1846 in Greene County, Ohio; married Phoebe HOLDERMAN and Martha DEARTH
James E.; b. 1848 in Greene County, Ohio; married Viola ROBINSON
Harvey Leander; b. 1855 in Greene County, Ohio; married Mary "Martha" FORD and Alice UNKNOWN
Virginia "Jennie"; b. BET 1852 - 1857 in Ohio
Emma; b. BET 1860 - 1867 in Ohio; married Unknown BEATTY
In 1830, I believe they were in Greensville County, Virginia. In 1850, they lived in Xenia Twp., Greene County, Ohio and they were mulatto. In 1870 and 1880, they lived in Silver Creek Twp., Greene County, Ohio and they were white. I do not have 1840 or 1860 census records for them.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
