The Williamsport News, Williamsport, Pickaway Co., OH, on Sep. 1, 1910, ran an article titled “IN YE OLDEN TIMES” which was a brief biographical sketch of the Davis pioneers to Deercreek Twp., Pickaway Co., OH. This article was later published as an 8 page book titled “The Davis Family” by Wm. B. Davis (William Benjamin Davis (1844-1929)). This publication deals mostly with the telling of the life of Wm. B. Davis’ parents Ebenezer Sigler Davis (1808-1894) and Sedana McFarland (1812-1893), and their community involvement. However, he begins by stating that between about 1802 and 1813 a family of Davis’s came from near Westernport, Allegany Co., MD and what is now Keyser, Mineral Co., WV and lived at Pickaway Co., OH, some staying and some eventually moving on. Benjamin, Jered, Isaac, Ebenezar, and Elizabeth Davis and their families all congregated at or near these places after the Revolutionary War before coming to Ohio.

Ebenezar Davis b. abt. 1761 at Westernport, Allegany Co., MD, d. 1850 in Vermillion Co., IN. His father was Ebenezar Davis b. unknown date and location, d. bet. I have gathered enough evidence to believe that these different Davis’ are in fact of the same family, although not particularly brothers and sisters. However, finding anything further back than what is posted here has proved difficult. My direct ancestor, Ebenezar Davis who died in 1793/1794 at Westernport, Allegany Co., MD is the main focus of my search. I have been unable to establish his origins. I hope that by posting this information that someone may have a hint or clue that will lead me to my earlier ancestors.
Thanks, Mark Davis
