Judge Matlock and Joseph W. Davis were associated in the practice of law in White Co. Davis was considered upcoming young lawyer until an early death about 1872. Who was Joseph W. DAvis? He was not my g2 grandfather, Joseph Ware Davis who m. Nancy Minerva Janes in White Co. in 1949. However, there is a Matlock - Davis connection in Pickaway Co., OH. John Davis, b. 1807 m. (1) Elizabeth Crabb [1810-1882]. John later m. Hester(Wilson)Matlock, widow of Nehemiah Matlock in Pickaway Co. and both d. there in 1894 within 22 hours of one another. John's father Benjamin DAvis [1777-1873] m. Maria Burget, 12 Nov 1840 in Pickaway Co., OH. With his first but unnamed wife had 10 children: John, b. 1807, William, m. Rebecca McQuire; Joseph, Isaac, Davis, Thomas Fletcher, Mary A and Amanda DAvis who m. <Daniel> Ayres. Benjamin & Maria were counted in the 1850 census of White Co. with Eliza Davis, m. Zibe Herrington; Malisia DAvis, m. Joshua Lindsay, Elias DAvis and one other whose name presently escapes me. William T. Lindsey, brother of Joshua, m. Lucy Davis d/o Theodore M. Davis & Eliza Hancock. Theodore is is s/o Jacob Davis & Sarah Wolf. Jacob is s/o of Abel Davis [c1765-1847] Benjamin, b. MD is believed to be related to Abel DAvis of White Co., IN who d. testate in 1847. I seek additional information on these families. Notify Administrator about this message?
