Does anyone know either of these William Youngs or the Buel Phelps?

"For and in consideration of having engaged H. Thornton of New Albany, Indiana, to attend to the defence of William, William Young and Merritt Young who stand indicted in the Washington Circuit court for an A & B (assault and battery) upon buel Phelps with the intent to murder him, we do hereby promise to pay him the sum of One hundred dollars.

One of these William Young moved to Clay Co IL and died there on 10-28-1848. This William Young married a Margaret and had sons Hugh H., James, and Merrit T. Young. There are daughters also.
