Warren Republican Warren County, Indiana Thursday, March 22, 1888 --------- Henry Ritenour, a man for many years well known in this county, and more intimately in Warren and Washington Townships, after an illness of nearly four weeks, died at his home in this place last Monday evening at six o'clock. He leaves a devoted wife and two children sons Jacob and Johnny. The funeral occurred at the residence yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Wm. Wilmer officiating. Remains were interred in the cemetery near Independence, where his relatives are buried. Deceased at the time of his death was Deputy Auditor under County Auditor Stearns, and was an efficient, hardworking and trusted officer. He leaves his little family in straightened circumstances. ------------- April 19, 1888 -- HENRY RITENOUR -- Henry Ritenour died at his home in Williamsport, March 19, 1888, after an illness of sixteen days, of lung fever. The subject of this brief sketch was born in Warren County, Ind. April 17, 1834, and at the time of his death was aged 53 years, 11 months and 2 days. He made Warren County his home during his life time -- with the exception of two years, one year at school in Illinois, and one year in Ohio. In his younger days he followed school teaching in the winter season, and at the carpenter trade through the summer months. He was elected to the office of township assessor three or four different times. He also held the position of school commissioner for two years -- the years 1871 and 1872, and for two or three years was engaged in selling dry goods and groceries at Independence, this county, sold his stock of goods and moved to Williamsport, Ind., in the year 1878, and entered the Auditor's office as Deputy Auditor, under the late William Moffitt, and was also deputy under George Adams quite awhile. At the time of his death was deputy under the present Auditor, Z. T. Stearns. The deceased was married to his first wife, Eliza Campbell, in the year 1854. This union was of short duration as she died in about a year after their marriage; one child was born unto them who died in infancy. His second marriage was to Miss Mattie J. Pepper, April 19, 1865. By this union they were blessed with three children -- Vessie, who died in infancy, Jacob and Johnny, who, with their mother, still survive. The funeral services were conducted at their residence by Rev. Wm. Wilmer, March 21, at 10 o'clock A.M. The remains were conveyed to Independence and interred in the old cemetery beside his friends. ----- Notify Administrator about this message?
