Haleys in Vigo Co early 1800s

I have a land purchase for my ancestor Spencer Haley (spelled Hailey then) who bought land from the government when Terre Haute was opened. He was living in Shelby County, KY in 1820. I have no evidence he ever moved to Indiana, as clearly he was found later in McLean Co KY where he died. I'm wondering if he bought this for a son who DID move there. In those days census didn't name sons.
I'm looking for any leads to Haleys (or similar soundex surnames) in the Terre Haute area that date back to the early days there, obviously trying to track other children. Any information or leads are welcome, and certainly appreciated.
