I found the marriage record for this couple.

24 June 1840 in Vigo county

I also discovered that John's brother, Felix V. HUMPHREYS, listed his birthplace as Vigo county c. 1837 (in Civil War soldier document). Now, I can positively place these HUMPHREYS in Vigo county. Other brothers were Joshua Badger, Jesse, Alfred, Franklin W. The father was also named John HUMPHREYS; he died 1850 in Coahoma county Mississippi. The mother was America D. HUMPHREYS (maiden name unknown). I believe the family moved to Vigo county from Tennessee.
