Hello Mary,
I'm not sure about the address or phone number at the Historical Society but I'm sure you can get that from long distance information... As for St. Mary's of the woods, it very well could have been a school, just not sure if it was ever an orphanage or not...
Plymouth, Indiana is about a four hour drive from Terre Haute... Which I felt was a long way at that time, then I thought, well, maybe the children were placed there to place them closer to their grandparents or something, I really don't know... This is pure spectulation on my part...
There was also another place for children, but at this time my head can't think of the name of it but, it seems to me it was in Butlerville or something like that... I'm not sure about it being a catholic home or not...
Sorry I can't be of more help at this time...
