Isaac Smith & Amanda Wright - Tipton Flu Epidemic?

I'm trying to find more information on my great-great grandfather and grandmother. Isaac T. Smith and Amanda Wright were listed in the 1870 Census, but in 1880, their children were all listed under Amanda's parents household.

Any ideas where I could find more info on Issac? Also, is anyone familiar with a devastating influenza epidemic in Tipton between 1870 and 1880?
