Krauss/Speckhardt families early 1900's Lafayette

My gt-grandparents were Johann and Karolina Krauss who were born in Germany in 1867 and came to Lafayette in 1896/7. They moved to Joliet, Illinois in 1900, but used to return to Lafayette to visit Johann's half-brother or step-brother in the early 1900's. The name of the "brother" was Conrad Speckhardt whose mother or step-mother was Elisabetha Krauss, Johann's mother. If anyone has a connection to these families or has any info about them , I would really appreciate hearing from you. I have a bit of additional info to share, but I'm trying to find out where Conrad and Johann lived in Germany in order to continue my quest.
