I >think< your WIlliam McGowen is probably a McGlone. McGlone was frequently butchered into a number of renderings, McGowen being but one. I have a William S McGlone b 10 Apr 1823 Vigo/Sullivan Area, m Margaret Mundall 6 Feb 1862 Vigo, d 16 Jul 1898 Sullivan. This William was the son of William McGlone b 1785 MD d aft 10 Mar 1845 and his 1st wife Mary Polly Staggs. I have more if this matches with your info.
