The following might be of help to you.

Early Settlers of Greene County, Indiana (From Southern States) Pg. 15

1833 - Bullitt County, KY: Adam H. Shoptaw, b. c. 1827, Bullitt Co, KY, a Blacksmith, settled Grant Township in 1833. He married 30 Dec 1848, Susannah M.E. Holder, b. c. 1830 NC. A probable Uncle, Henry Shoptaw, b. c. 1810,KY a shoemaker, with wife Mary J., b. c. 1817, KY, and children: John, b. c. 1837,KY; William, b. ca. 1839, KY; Joseph, b. c. 1842, KY; and Rachael, b. c. 1844, Ky, settled same area in 1845. Ellen Shoptaw, (wife of John), b. 1765, d. 12 Oct 1842, is int. Shoptaw Cemetery, Jackson Township.

I checked 1870 and 1880 Sullivan County, Indiana census, there are not any Shoptaw/Shoptaugh's listed.
